Starry Napkins for Jenny

This morning, I have some photos to show you of the gift I made for my friend Jenny and her fiancĂ© Gordon. Jenny and I met through a weekly Bible study at church. I knew that friendship was inevitable after catching on to her wicked sense of sarcasm. There were definitely a number of times when we were the only ones laughing in the room. It was kind of like how in The Office, Jim turns to the camera to give that, "Is this really happening?" face. I turned to Jenny. Sadly, Jenny has now moved on to a new group with Gordon, and I am the only one in the room laughing. That gets kind of awkward, but I just save the stories to tell Jenny later.

So, back to the gift—a napkin set. This has kind of become my standard wedding gift because it's personal, but also doesn't take too much time.

I was actually running short enough on time last week that I picked up a set of plain grey napkins at Home Goods as a base and then added the stars to them. You can call this "cheating" if you want, but I call this 3 to 4 extra hours of sleep on Saturday night.

I will say, though, that I was surprised at how the majority of the napkins hadn't been squared up with the grain and, therefore, didn't quite have 90 degree corners. But I just had to remind my perfectionist-self that it was saving me from staying up all night, and Jenny (who is not an obsessive perfectionist) would still love them.

Each of the napkins has three stars that I zigzag stitched around and two outlined stars that I stitched with a straight stitch using my free-motion quilting foot. I arranged the stars differently on each napkin.

Most of Jenny and Gordon's registry items are white or neutrals, so I decided to go with mostly neutrals with subtle pops of color to match their theme.

I gave these napkins to Jenny yesterday at her bridal shower. I am really looking forward to celebrating with Jenny and Gordon again in February for their big day!
